  Aanii;  Blog In this blog I will example what Appropriation is and misrepresentation and the importance it has in the Indians Arts and Craft Act which was passed in 1990. This is so crazy because before 1990 Native American Art was being used (appropriation) without one's permission basically benefiting either financially or stealing the item and making it theirs. Example 1: going into a shop buying an item and putting it on Ebay as their handmade native item, without permission of the person who designed it/ made it. Example 2: Going to a powwow and getting it from there basket, without permission of the person who made it, and selling it as their own. Misrepresentation of Culture is an action of offense to that culture an Example: Sports teams using a Native American as a mascot.  So finally in 1990 a law was passed to protect a person from the misuse and appropriation of Native American artwork or craft.
